Who we are

Wishing Tree Productions Inc, founded in 2013 by UK/Canada producer Jonathan Vanger, has swiftly become one of Canada’s premiere producers of feature films and television programs.

Operating from offices in Montreal and Toronto, Wishing Tree Productions (WT) specializes in catering to US productions seeking to film in Canada, along with collaborating with production companies in France, Belgium, Germany, and the UK for official co-productions.

With a rich history spanning over 25 years in the industry, Wishing Tree has overseen more than $300 million in tax credit financing. As a result, Wishing Tree boasts robust banking relationships, including COFICINE in Paris and the National Bank of Canada in Montreal, enabling it to navigate complex financial structures with ease.

Wishing Tree is bond approved by all recognized bond companies, further solidifying its commitment to project success and financial security. Notable clients in recent years include industry giants such as Netflix, Amazon, Gaumont Television, Europacorp, Mediawan, Studio Canal and NBC/Universal.

The Wishing Tree way

  • Wishing Tree prides itself on having an internal tax credit team dedicated to each project, ensuring continuity and maximizing funding opportunities throughout production. The team remains engaged from inception to the final application process for tax credits, offering comprehensive support and expertise.

  • Wishing Tree acts as the official Canadian partner on projects that are looking to film in Eastern Canada. The company has a great deal of experience in structuring co-productions using many of the 52 official treaties signed with Canada. The goal is to tap the maximum financial contribution from each territory without having to make significant creative compromises that would undermine the project. Co-productions are time consuming to structure , the earlier we are implicated the better

  • Wishing Tree continues to develop and produce its own film and television projects alongside its service production activities. Wishing Tree has a working relationship with German IP acquisition and development specialists Mount Devil UG and are currently pursuing development on three projects with them.

    The companies’ films and television shows are largely produced in Canada using the local tax incentives and other forms of financial support from Federal and Provincial agencies such as Telefilm and The Sodec.

    Current films in development are “Train” , “Controllers”, “Bringing it Home” and “Otter Ville”

    Current Television projects include “Otherland” and “Big Time Berlin”.
